MIRI: A man suffered a serious leg injury after being impaled by a metal rod while cutting grass near a house in Tudan Phase 5 on Sunday (May 10) evening.
The incident occurred at Lorong Ketapang 3, Tudan Phase 5, here, prompting an emergency response from the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Lutong station.
According to the operations commander, the victim was carrying out grass-cutting work when a metal rod pierced his right leg.
A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the emergency call was received at 5.48pm before a team from BBP Lutong was dispatched to the scene a minute later.
The fire engine arrived at the location at about 6pm, with firefighters immediately assessing the situation and providing initial treatment to the injured man.
“Firefighters carried out an early medical response by bandaging the victim’s calf area where the metal rod had penetrated,” said Luting Fire and Rescue station chief Henry Jugah.
The victim was later handed over to Health Ministry personnel for further treatment.
Authorities said the victim’s personal details could not be immediately obtained as he was not carrying any identification documents during the incident.
The operation ended at 6.26pm, with the rescue team returning to the station shortly afterwards.
A total of six personnel, led by PBK II (TBBK I) Edwin, were involved in the operation.
