KUCHING: Hope Place, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), is providing a couple here with basic food aid to help ease their financial burden.
Maurine Timbang, a 37-year-old woman from Batu Kawa, is facing multiple serious health issues, including diabetes, kidney failure, heart problems, high blood pressure, and lung problems.
Tragically, she has also lost her sight due to glaucoma and had to have her right leg amputated, rendering her wheelchair-bound and entirely dependent on her husband.
Maurine’s husband, Freddyzer, 32, used to work as a security guard but had to resign to become his wife’s full-time caregiver after her health deteriorated.
Freddyzer takes on the role of cook, cleaner, and caregiver, tending to all of Maurine’s needs and hygiene.
According to Hope Place, the couple faces financial difficulties, with no income coming in. While Maurine receives some support from SOCSO compensation and social welfare aid amounting to RM300, the couple’s primary concern is the substantial medical expenses.
Maurine requires dialysis three times a week, with each session costing RM250. She also needs disposable needles for her daily insulin injections. Occasionally, Freddyzer’s father, a pensioner, assists them financially.
“Most of our money is spent on my medical bills. There’s little money left for other things. So both Freddy and I eat as little as possible because there’s not enough,” said Maurine.
Hope Place extends its gratitude to donors and sponsors for their continuous support in assisting families like Maurine and Freddy.
