Online streaming platform iQIYI will edit scenes deemed inappropriate in its controversial drama ‘Madu atau Racun’, following widespread criticism over the past few days.
iQIYI Southeast Asia senior managing director Dinesh Ratnam said the platform understood the guidelines set by the Film Censorship Board (LPF) and was prepared to work with the relevant authorities to address the issue.
“This story has nothing to do with inappropriate activities. It explores the responsibilities of a husband who has two wives and the roles of his wives.
“There are many lessons that can be taken from the story. However, when the clips that were shown were misinterpreted, the issue became sensationalised.
“Nevertheless, we are prepared to take the necessary steps and make changes by editing any scenes deemed unsuitable for public viewing. We will also review the first six episodes that have already been released,” he said after a meeting with National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) chief executive officer Datuk Azmir Saifuddin Mutalib at Dewan Samad Idris, FINAS Complex, in Kuala Lumpur.
Also present at the meeting were representatives from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Malaysian Television Producers Association (PTVM), Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) and the Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia (CMCF).
The 12-episode drama recently came under fire after several scenes involving actresses Elisya Sandha and Uqasha Senrose were alleged to allude to LGBT or same-sex activities.
The scenes were subsequently edited by netizens and shared widely on social media.
