MIRI: All four bridges in Kampung Pujut Tanjong Batu here has now been upgraded to concrete structures following the completion of the latest RM250,000 project.
Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, said the latest project replaced an ageing wooden bridge which was no longer suitable for use.
He said its completion marked the upgrading of all four bridges in the village under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).
“This is the last of four bridges in Kampung Pujut Tanjong Batu to be upgraded to a concrete structure,” he said during a visit to the completed project here today.
Lee, who is also Senadin assemblyman, said the new bridges would provide residents with safer and better access for their daily commute.
However, he said several additional works were still required to improve safety around the bridges.
The Miri City Council (MCC) has been asked to install four road barriers at the entrance and exit of the bridges and pave the gravel section at a nearby junction to provide a proper connection to the bridges.
Lee said an MCC engineer who joined the visit had agreed for the additional work to be carried out soon.
Meanwhile, Kampung Pujut Tanjong Batu village chief, Usman Sulaiman, said the village had also benefited from improvements to roads, drainage as well as electricity and gas supply.
He said improvements to the drainage system had helped reduce the risk of flooding during heavy rain, although regular maintenance was still needed to ensure it continues to function effectively.
The bridge upgrading project commenced on December 8 last year and was completed on April 7 this year within the stipulated timeframe.
