KPDN seizes diesel and other items hidden illegally

BINTANGOR: The Sibu General Operations Force (GOF) successfully uncovered a misappropriation of subsidised diesel worth RM34,400 from a house.

Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sarikei branch chief Mohamad Zawawi said the seized items, including 16,000 litres of diesel, have been handed over to KPDN Sarikei for further action.

The items also included a tanker truck, a pick-up truck, 18 intermediate bulk containers (IBC), and an electric pump, with a total seizure valued at RM119,980.

“The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for possession of controlled goods in a condition that gives rise to reasonable suspicion of committing an offence.

“If convicted, corporations face fines of up to RM2 million for the first offense and up to RM5 million for subsequent offenses.

“Meanwhile, individuals could be fined up to RM1 million or face imprisonment up to three years, or both, for the first offense, and up to RM3 million or imprisonment up to five years, or both, for subsequent offenses,” he said in a statement.

In light of this, Zawawi issued a stern warning that the ministry will not hesitate to take strict action against anyone involved in misappropriating subsidised diesel.

Members of the public is encouraged to report any information regarding the misappropriation of controlled and subsidised goods at 019-8488000 / 019-279431 or email the complaints portal at e-aduan.kpdn.gov.my.

They can also report them to the call centre at 1-800-886-80 and the Ez ADU KPDN smartphone application.
