Kuching City Day has emerged as a powerful unifying force, transcending racial, religious, and social backgrounds, according to Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.
This celebration not only instils pride in Kuching residents but also resonates with the entire Sarawakian populace, he said.
“Anything else from here is a bonus, in a sense that Kuching City Day is also a part where so many economic activities are happening.”

He praised the annual Kuching Food Festival as just one example of the city’s vibrant economic activities, which in turn enable the community to support those less fortunate.
“Our spirit of giving and receiving, our care for one another, and our dedication to societal wellbeing are central to our character,” Dr Sim emphasised during his speech at the prize presentation and charity donation handover ceremony held at MBKS here on today (Aug 18).
Meanwhile, the Kuching Food Festival successfully raised RM48,927 this year, with over 18 charitable organisations being selected as beneficiaries of these funds.
Recipients included the Taiwan Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia (Kuching), Kuching Life Care Society, Kuching Autistic Association, The Salvation Army, The Carnation Club of Kuching and Samarahan, The Society for Kuching Urban Poor (SKUP), and Sarawak Breast Cancer Support Group.

Meanwhile, several Kuching schools actively participated in the 2023 School Garden and Landscape Competition.
The competition comprised two categories, primary and secondary schools, with SJK Chung Hua No. 5 securing the primary school grand prize of RM2,000, and SMK Bandar Kuching earning the secondary school grand prize of RM3,000.
Also present during the ceremony were Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng; Dr Sim’s wife, Datin Seri Enn Ong; Sarawak Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Penguang Manggil; ministry permanent secretary Elizabeth Loh, and other guests.
