LAWAS: A terrifying machete-wielding outburst forced a mother and her daughter to flee their home in Ba’Kelalan before police arrested the woman’s 45-year-old son last Friday.

Lawas police chief DSP Lawas Liong Tindan said the suspect suddenly began shouting and brandishing a machete inside the house, leaving the two women fearing for their safety.

They fled to a relative’s house before the mother lodged a police report against her son.

“Acting swiftly on the report, a police team was dispatched to Ba’Kelalan, where the suspect was arrested at the house without further incident.

“A machete believed to have been used during the outburst was also seized. Background checks found that the suspect has two prior criminal records,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

In a separate case, Liong said police successfully tracked down and arrested a man wanted for allegedly injuring another man in Sundar earlier this month.

“The suspect was picked up at a hotel in Kota Kinabalu last Saturday, where officers also recovered a machete believed to have been used in the assault.

“Police are still investigating the motive behind the incident. Urine screening also found he tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said.

Background checks revealed that the suspect has five prior criminal and drug-related offences.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon and drug consumption.
