SIBU: A man, who was remanded to assist investigations in a shooting case earlier this year, was brought before the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday (July 17).

No plea was recorded from the accused, Billy Harris Wee, 25, after the charge was read out before Magistrate Romario Jonoi.

The court later scheduled July 25 for case re-mention in the Sessions Court under Section 307 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 109 of the same Code.

Section 307 provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years and also a fine, and if the act causes injury, imprisonment of up to 20 years upon conviction.

While awaiting case re-mention, the accused, represented by counsel Ranbir Singh, was not granted bail.

According to the charge sheet, Billy is accused of abetting with two others aged 21 and 32, who are still at large, to fire shots at a 29-year-old man.

They are alleged to have committed the offence at an eatery on Jalan Wong King Huo on 1 January 2024, at about 5.41 pm.

On July 3, the police arrested four suspects including the accused around this town, and another suspect in Johor on 4 July.

The other four suspects, represented by counsel Boston Ho, Daniel Ling, and Alexander Ling, were released on bail with one surety each, and were made prosecution witnesses.
