KUCHING: An operation to curb drug abuse in the district has led to the arrest of a local man after he tested positive for methamphetamine.

Codenamed ‘Ops Cegah’, the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) carried out the operation on Monday (June 29), targeting Sukma and Matang areas as well as other locations around the district, as part of its ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse.

In the operation, officers apprehended a man believed to have been involved in drug abuse.

A preliminary urine screening later confirmed that he tested positive for methamphetamine.

He has since been detained under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 for further action.

AADK Kuching said it will continue intensifying its prevention and enforcement operations to curb drug abuse and ensure local communities remain free from the threat of narcotics.
