KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii has proposed to Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng that his service centre fully fund the walkway upgrading project at Bintawa Hawker Centre.
In a Facebook post yesterday, Dr Yii shared that during his visit to the hawker centre on March 8, alongside Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong, they received complaints from both the public and hawkers about the deteriorating pedestrian walkway connecting the main road to the centre.
“Despite renovations, the brick-paved walkway has deteriorated due to heavy rain, forming gaps that pose a significant safety hazard to visitors.
“To enhance public safety, I propose upgrading the entire walkway to ensure a safer and more durable path.
“Additionally, I suggest installing railings along the drainage area, particularly for early morning visitors,” he said.
Dr Yii also mentioned that during his visit to Kenyalang Hawker Centre on the same day, he met with Wee and submitted an official letter outlining the proposal to create a safer and more comfortable environment for both residents and hawkers in Bintawa.
“This collaboration aims to improve the business environment for hawkers while ensuring public safety.
“I hope MBKS approves the proposal soon so that upgrading works can commence without delay,” he added.
