KUCHING: In conjunction with the National Day celebration, CityONE Megamall Kuching is collaborating with Sarawak State Library to hold a Storytelling Competition for primary schoolchildren (Primary 4 to 6) on August 26 (Saturday, 10.00am – 3.00pm) at CityONE Megamall Kuching.
Eleven schools in Kuching will be involved in the competition including SJK (C) Chung Hua No 3, SK Matang Jaya, SK St. Joseph, SK St Teresa, SK St Mary, SK Rakyat Jalan Haji Bolhassan, SJK (C) Stampin, SK Tabuan, Kuching, SK Batu Lintang dan SK St. Thomas and SK RPR Jalan Astana.
Attractive prizes await the winners including RM400 for first place, RM200 for second place and RM150 for third place.
All winners will also receive a trophy, a certificate of participation, a hamper and books.
Meanwhile, winners of the consolation prizes (fourth to 20th) will receive a certificate of participation and a souvenir each.
The purpose of the competition is to improve language skills through listening, speaking, reading and writing in both Malay and English. It also encourages self confidence among the pupils, especially when speaking in front of audiences.
This competition is also to encourage pupils’ interest in reading and cultivating the patriotic spirit and love towards the country.
Books will also be presented to the 12 schools involved and the Reading Corner @ CityOne Megamall Kuching under the Bookshare project by Persatuan Pustakawan Malaysia Kumpulan Sarawak (PPMKSR) .
The prizes to all winners will be presented by the General Manager of CityONE Megamall Kuching, Brandon Lo and Head of Corporate Management Sector, Sarawak State Library’, Wan Mazli Wan Razali.
