KUCHING: Amid the roar of 19,855 fans and the high stakes of a Malaysia Cup semi-final, an unexpected guest briefly stole the spotlight at Stadium Negeri, Petra Jaya, on Saturday night (Apr 18) – a small squirrel darting onto the pitch.

The curious visitor appeared unfazed, scampering across the grass as players in red and white battled in the background, adding a light-hearted moment to an otherwise intense contest.

While it seemed a random interruption, some fans jokingly took it as a sign of good fortune, as Kuching City FC went on to secure a historic place in the Malaysia Cup final with a 2-1 aggregate win over Selangor FC.

The night’s wildlife sightings did not end there, with a frog also spotted perched along the stadium barriers, quietly observing the action from the sidelines.

In a tongue-in-cheek twist, supporters quipped that even nature had turned up in support of the Cats, with the frog becoming an unlikely mascot for the evening.

Whether coincidence or charm, the appearances added a quirky layer to a night that will already go down as one of the most memorable in Kuching City FC’s journey.
