SERIAN: An elderly man has been reported missing after failing to return home from gathering edible ferns at Lorong 29, Kampung Taie, Jalan Baki-Riih, here.
Asui Langgang, 88, left his house on a motorcycle around 9 am on Monday (June 17) to search for ferns in a nearby forest.
When he did not return home, his family initiated a search party and found his motorcycle abandoned, but there was no sign of him. The family later reported the incident to the authorities for further search assistance.
Firefighters from Serian station and a K9 unit were deployed to the scene, about 20km away, after receiving a distress call at 8.09 am today.
Upon arrival, the search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched, covering a 2km radius from where the motorcycle was found, focusing on an oil palm plantation and nearby rivers.
At the time of writing, Asui is yet to be found.
The SAR operation involves 35 personnel, including firefighters, police, Civil Defence Force (APM), People’s Volunteer Corp (Rela), and local villagers.
