KUCHING: A late-night immigration sweep across the city saw 27 individuals of various nationalities arrested for suspected offences involving misuse of passes and overstaying in the country.
Codenamed ‘Ops Selera’, the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division conducted raids on several food outlets in Tabuan, Taman Samarindah, Jalan Song Commercial Centre and Taman Berjaya on Monday (May 11).
Backed by intelligence and surveillance, a team of 28 officers inspected eateries suspected of employing foreign workers without valid work permits or travel documents.
The detained foreigners were believed to be working illegally or residing in the country beyond the permitted period.
The Sarawak Immigration Department added that five employers and representatives have been ordered to appear at the enforcement office to facilitate investigations and provide further information.
Similar operations would continue to be intensified to curb immigration offences and ensure employers comply with existing laws and regulations.
