MIRI: A man was killed in a suspected hit-and-run accident along Jalan Miri Airport near Borneo Medical Centre in the early hours of Monday morning.

According to Miri Police chief ACP Supt Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, the accident occurred at about 1 am when the victim, believed to be in his 50s, was attempting to cross the road from the right side to the left side of the carriageway.

Initial investigations revealed that the pedestrian was suspected to have been struck by an unidentified vehicle travelling along the right lane of the road. The driver of the vehicle is believed to have fled the scene.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mohd Farhan said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Police are appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or possess relevant information to come forward to assist in the investigation.

Police also reminded motorists to drive responsibly and comply with traffic regulations to ensure the safety of all road users.
