PADAWAN: Police have issued traffic summon to a local driver caught on camera for overtaking on double lines along Jalan Puncak Borneo on Gawai Eve (May 31).
The incident gained widespread attention when a dashcam footage, depicting the reckless act, went viral on Facebook. The clip showed the driver nearly caused an accident by entering the opposite lane with oncoming traffic to overtake a car around 9pm.
According to the Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, the viral video attracted negative comments condemning the driver’s actions as jeopardising the safety of other road users.
Following that, the Padawan traffic police identified the driver and summoned him to assist in the investigation.
On Tuesday (June 11), the driver appeared at the office of traffic police to own up to his action.
He admitted to his wrongdoing of overtaking on double lines, which is an offence under Rule 17B (1) of the Traffic Rules 166/59.
