KUCHING: Sarawak police have arrested four suspected snatchers on Tuesday (June 6) to facilitate investigations into multiple snatch theft cases.
The arrests were made by the Special Investigation Division (D9) personnel of the Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at different locations in Kuching and Padawan districts.
Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said the suspects’ modus operandi was to deliberately target senior citizens during the early hours of the morning.
“Their criminal activities extended across districts in Kuching, Kota Samarahan and Padawan, instilling a sense of fear among the elderly population.
“With their arrests, we managed to solve at least 11 snatch theft, two burglary and one motorcycle theft cases,” he said.
The team seized nine phones, four bank cards, and 11 sharp weapons from the suspects.
Mohd Azman said they also managed to recover a motorcycle that had been reported stolen in Padawan.
The suspects aged between 23 and 30, had prior records for theft, burglaries, vehicle theft and drugs.
Mohd Azman said the case is being investigated under Sections 395/397, 380, and 379A of the Penal Code.
All four suspects are being remanded for three days until June 10 to facilitate investigation.
The police thanked vigilant members of the community who played a pivotal role in providing crucial information, which led to the arrest of the snatchers.
