KUCHING: Residents in Puncak Borneo constituency are invited to register for the B2 Motorcycle Driving Licence Assistance Programme (BLM) organised by the Puncak Borneo Service Centre.
Puncak Borneo Member of Parliament, Datuk Willie Mongin, said the initiative is aimed at making it easier for eligible residents to obtain valid motorcycle driving licences while promoting safer road usage.
“The programme reflects our commitment to helping the community, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds, gain legal access to motorcycle licences at a more affordable cost,” he said.
Willie added that the programme also seeks to cultivate a greater understanding of road safety and encourage compliance with traffic laws among road users.
“Road safety must always be a priority. Through this programme, participants will not only obtain a licence but also gain the knowledge and awareness needed to become responsible road users,” he said.
The programme targets school students, residents from rural and interior areas, government aid recipients, the urban poor and other individuals who meet the eligibility requirements.
Applicants must be Malaysian citizens, at least 16 years old on the date of registration for the Part 1 test, physically and mentally fit, and must not possess any other class of driving licence.
They must also not be blacklisted by the courts, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) or the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
Under the programme, participants will only need to pay RM250 compared to the normal fee of RM530, providing significant savings for eligible applicants.
Application forms can be obtained from the P198 Puncak Borneo Service Centre at No. 8, Sinaruh Hill, Kampung Bratan, Batu 16, Jalan Puncak Borneo, or from Liamarc Driving Institute in Tarat.
The closing date for submissions is August 1.
Successful applicants will be contacted in stages by JPJ and the driving institute for further arrangements and training sessions.
Willie urged eligible residents not to miss the opportunity and to submit their applications before the deadline.
