MIRI: A repeat offender has been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to threatening to behead his employer with a machete during a confrontation at a farm in Jalan Tukau, here.
The 38-year-old local man was convicted at the Miri Magistrate’s Court under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
The incident occurred at about 10.30am on May 25 when the employer arrived at his farm to enquire about work being carried out by the accused, who was employed there.
Police said the accused became enraged during the conversation before returning to his room upstairs and emerging moments later armed with a three-foot machete.
He allegedly swung the weapon, hacked at the wooden staircase railing and threatened to chop off the victim’s head.
Fearing for his safety, the employer fled the scene and lodged a police report.
Court records showed the accused had three previous convictions for similar offences in 2019, 2022 and 2024.
