SRI AMAN: The construction of the new Lubok Antu Health Clinic is scheduled to be retendered around mid-year, according to federal Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni.

He affirmed that construction would commence once a new contractor is appointed, with an anticipated 24-month timeline for completion.

Expressing optimism, he hoped that the new clinic would be ready by 2026 and fully operational by 2027.

“The construction project for the new Lubok Antu Clinic is currently in critical condition. We have decided to terminate the contract of the responsible contractor due to unsatisfactory progress, which was below 10 per cent,” he told the media after visiting the Lubok Antu Health Clinic on Thursday (Jan 18).

Lukanisman stressed that contractors must be competent and capable of completing crucial projects like clinic construction. “The ministry’s aspiration is to provide comprehensive clinics in rural areas.”

During his visit, he stated that the purpose of his Mobile Visit to Sarawak Health Facilities programme was to find solutions to enhance facilities in dilapidated clinics in Sarawak, determining the ministry’s next steps.

As a follow-up, he announced that RM500,000 had been allocated for the Engkilili Health Clinic, and RM600,000 had been allocated for the Nanga Entalau Health Clinic to construct new facilities for both clinics.

Additionally, he assured that the Nanga Patuh Clinic would undergo an upgrade, and the Nanga Stamang Clinic would use solar power once upgraded.
