KUCHING: The Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) Complex at Jalan Ong Tiang Swee has reached 99.37 percent physical completion.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas confirmed that the project, costing RM80 million, is expected to be fully completed within September, and was confident that the occupational permit (OP) will be issued by the end of the month as planned.

“We had set a target back in May to get the OP by September, and this visit is to ensure we are on track,” Uggah told reporters during the site inspection here earlier today.

He also noted that while there was a slight delay of 0.33 percent due to issues with the utilities, these have since been resolved and the remaining work is focused on minor fittings.

The complex will feature a hall for up to 1,000 people, expandable to 1,200 by opening the corridor, nine shop lots, a nine-storey office tower, meeting rooms, and a rooftop garden.

Uggah added that the Unifor and Charitable Trust offices are expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2025.

He also highlighted the building’s significance as part of Sarawak’s Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

“This building is a symbol of our inclusivity policies under PCDS 2030 and a point of pride for Sarawak. We hope Unifor will continue fostering unity as we strive to become a high-income region by 2030,” he added.

Also present were Sarawak Unifor Charitable Trust CEO John Kennedy Janang and COO Shimon William.
