KUCHING: Sarawak is expected to appoint the chief executive officer (CEO) of its newly established Sarawak Aerospace Agency by the end of the year as the state advances plans to develop its aerospace capabilities.
Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said the agency, placed under his ministry, represents the state’s first step towards establishing a dedicated aerospace ecosystem.
“We have established the Sarawak Space Advisory Council chaired by the Premier. We have also established the Sarawak Aerospace Agency under the ministry.
“This is just the beginning. The board of directors has been formed and we are now in the process of appointing a CEO. We have received a considerable number of applications and hope to make the appointment before the end of this year,” he told reporters after officiating the Converged Telecommunications Policy and Regulations (CTPR) Masterclass 2026 at Pullman Hotel on Monday (Jul 27).
Julaihi said the latest development demonstrates Sarawak’s commitment to positioning aerospace as one of its strategic growth sectors while supporting the state’s broader digital ambitions.
Earlier, he said the agency would spearhead initiatives in satellite communications, earth observation, remote sensing and geospatial applications.
He said these technologies could strengthen communications resilience while enhancing disaster management, environmental monitoring, agriculture, land use planning and the delivery of public services across Sarawak.
