LUNDU: Sarawak Energy has planted and protected more than 260,000 trees across Sarawak under its sustainability campaign as of 2026.
Group chief executive officer Datuk Sharbini Suhaili said the achievement marks the campaign passing the halfway point of its 2021 to 2030 target to plant 500,000 trees across Sarawak.
He said more than 12,700 trees had been planted this year, with the latest programme contributing another 600 trees to the overall total.
“The 600 trees planted at Samunsam today mark another milestone in our journey towards achieving that target by 2030.
“This initiative forms part of Sarawak Energy’s broader sustainability commitment and God willing, we will continue this initiative in line with the Sarawak Government’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030,” he told reporters during the tree-planting programme held in collaboration with the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) at Samunsam Wildlife Sanctuary here today (July 27).
Earlier, Sharbini said the programme reflected two shared priorities namely supporting environmental conservation and strengthening the longstanding partnership between Sarawak Energy and its media partners.
Organised by Sarawak Energy in collaboration with SFC, the programme involved about 70 participants, including some 40 media practitioners from Sarawak-based media organisations, alongside Sarawak Energy’s senior leadership and staff.
“While we often meet at project launches and other corporate events, today’s programme provides an opportunity for us to work alongside one another in this tree planting activity in support of environmental conservation.
“For this, I would like to extend our sincere appreciation and thank you for your continued support and collaboration over the years.
“We hope that by working together with SFC, the media and local communities, we can continue to support meaningful conservation efforts across Sarawak,” he said.
Sharbini reaffirmed Sarawak Energy’s commitment to continuing its environmental conservation efforts for future generations.
“We have been serving Sarawak for 100 years, and we hope to be here for another 100 years.
“We want to ensure that Sarawak Energy is recognised globally as an organisation that contributes to well-being, not only through environmental stewardship, but also by improving the lives of the communities and people of Sarawak,” he said.
