KUCHING: A kidney failure diagnosis has left a 34-year-old man unable to work and struggling to support his family, prompting Hope Place here to step in with much needed assistance.

Fadiman Maliki, a former petrol station pump attendant, was diagnosed with kidney failure in October last year, although he said doctors had first detected the condition in 2021.

Believing he was still young and healthy, he ignored medical advice at the time. His condition has since deteriorated, forcing him to stop work at the end of last year.

According to a statement by Hope Place on Monday, the welfare organisation recently visited Fadiman and his family at their home in Stampin Baru, where it provided food aid and children’s milk powder.

Fadiman now undergoes home dialysis every six hours and is unable to hold a regular job because of his condition.

Determined to provide for his family, he collects and sells recyclable items whenever he is able to earn a small income.

His wife, Fatimah, 29, told Hope Place she plans to seek employment next year after their four-year-old daughter begins kindergarten.

“I don’t know why this happened to me. I look healthy and strong outwardly, but I’m scared my kidney condition will kill me,” Fadiman said.

The family live in a dilapidated wooden house and have yet to receive assistance from any other organisation.
Hope Place said it would continue supporting the family with essential food supplies and children’s milk powder.

Members of the public wishing to contribute may contact Hope Place, also known as Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching (PKHK), at 082-505987 or 013-5672775. Donations can also be made to the organisation’s Maybank account, 511289001160. Receipts will be issued upon request.
