KUCHING: The Borneo International Water and Wastewater Exhibition and Conference (BIWWEC) 2026 will take place from July 15 to 17 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), carrying the theme ‘Global Partnerships for a Climate-Ready Water Future’.

The conference is expected to attract about 1,500 delegates, 2,500 trade visitors, more than 70 exhibitors, and 75 distinguished speakers from Malaysia and around the world.

Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, said BIWWEC 2026 comes at a crucial time as governments and industries seek innovative and sustainable solutions to challenges involving water security, urbanisation, climate change and environmental resilience.

“Water is one of our most valuable resources. It is fundamental to public health, economic development, environmental sustainability, and the overall well-being of our communities,” he said during a press conference today.

He added that increasing urbanisation, industrialisation and climate change continue to place greater pressure on water resources, making innovation, collaboration and knowledge-sharing essential to building a resilient and sustainable water and wastewater sector.

“Hosting BIWWEC 2026 reflects Sarawak’s aspiration to become a regional centre of excellence in water management while showcasing the state government’s continued investments in modern infrastructure, digital transformation, environmental stewardship, and capacity building,” he said.

Julaihi also highlighted the development of BCCK 2, which will serve as the venue for the IWA World Water Congress and Exhibition 2028, describing the expansion as a testament to Sarawak’s commitment to meeting international hosting standards and strengthening its position in the global water industry.

In addition, several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with international partners are also expected to be signed during BIWWEC 2026 to strengthen collaboration in advancing water and wastewater initiatives.

The conference will be officially launched by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Organising chairperson of BIWWEC 2026 who is also the acting Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd, Malseni Jamal, said preparations are progressing well, with engagement efforts continuing across regional and international networks to ensure a high-quality conference and strong industry participation.

The organising committee also invited government agencies, industry players, and stakeholders to take part in the conference and contribute towards shaping the future of sustainable water management.
