MUKAH: Sarawak marked a historic milestone as all Primary Six pupils across the State sat for the inaugural Sarawak Year Six Dual Language Programme Assessment Test (UP-DLPS 6), which runs from today until October 16.

Deputy Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, said the test, held simultaneously statewide today, involved 29,177 Primary Six pupils.

It represents the state government’s first initiative following the abolishment of the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR).

“Today is a historic day not only for the Sarawak Government but also for all students and educators.

“We have successfully implemented a standardised test across Sarawak for Primary Six pupils after UPSR was abolished,” he told reporters after visiting the DLP Assessment Test Centres at SK Kampung Tellian and SK Kampung Petanak here.

Dr Annuar explained that the assessment serves three main objectives: to evaluate the progress of the Dual Language Programme (DLP), now in its sixth year; to identify school performance for further improvement; and to act as an entry requirement for Yayasan Sarawak International Schools.

During the visit, he also took the opportunity to inspect the new building at SK Kampung Petanak to see first-hand the facilities provided for the comfort of both pupils and teachers.

Also present were Tellian State Assemblyman, Royston Valentine, and Mukah District Education Officer, Awang Yusri Awang Adeni.
