LIMBANG: The state government will assess the extent of damage caused by the recent storm in Limbang District to determine the assistance required for affected residents and damaged public facilities.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the assessment would establish the extent of the damage and estimated costs before the matter is referred to the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).
“We have decided that an assessment should be carried out on the damage so that we can determine its extent and the estimated costs involved,” he said during a visit to storm-affected areas at Kampung Bukit Kota Hall here on Tuesday (Aug 25) as reported by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).
Awang Tengah said the state government had identified affected private homes, while reports had also been received of damage to public facilities, including community halls, mosques, suraus and government buildings.
Schools, the hospital and government staff quarters were also among the facilities reported to have been affected.
“We will liaise with the SDMC to obtain assistance for those affected by the storm,” he said.
He added that initial assistance had already been provided by the Welfare Department (JKM) and Tabung Baitulmal to affected residents following the incident.
The Limbang Islamic Welfare Trust Board (LAKIL) and the district disaster management committee will also assist victims according to their needs and available capacity
