THE Sarawak Government will raise concerns over high airfares with the federal Ministry of Transport (MOT) while continuing efforts to strengthen regional air connectivity through the development of AirBorneo.
State Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said the matter was raised following concerns voiced by several assemblymen during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting.
“My ministry will take up this matter with the federal Ministry of Transport to find a reasonable solution,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today (May 18).
Lee said the Sarawak government remains committed to improving connectivity and ensuring more sustainable air services for the people of the state.

“AirBorneo would progressively strengthen its operational capabilities, fleet planning and route network as part of the state’s long-term aviation strategy.
“In addition, AirBorneo will strive to progressively develop its operational capabilities, fleet planning and route network,” he said.
“The Sarawak government is also firm in its commitment to provide better connectivity and more sustainable air services, but such transformation cannot be realised overnight.”
Lee stressed that the state government’s involvement in the aviation sector marked a major shift in Sarawak’s approach towards regional air connectivity.
“What is important is that, for the first time, the Sarawak government is taking direct and proactive responsibility in shaping the future of regional aviation connectivity for Sarawak instead of depending entirely on other external aviation service providers,” he said.
