Sarawak’s tech advancements shine at MWC 2025

BARCELONA: Sarawak Microelectronics Design (SMD) Semiconductor successfully showcased its latest semiconductor innovations at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, held from March 3 to 6 at Fira de Barcelona Gran Via, Spain.

The live demonstration of the Ultra Edge® Power Converter prototype addressed the ongoing AI revolution, where artificial intelligence is reshaping industries worldwide.

Shariman Jamil, Chief Executive Officer of SMD Semiconductor, highlighted that these advancements present both opportunities and challenges, particularly concerning the increasing strain on data centre availability and grid energy management.

“SMD Semiconductor’s presence at MWC 2025 was a valuable opportunity to connect with industry pioneers, exchange insights, and explore collaborations that will shape the future of technology.

“The event allowed us to showcase our expertise and reaffirm our commitment to advancing semiconductor solutions that cater to the evolving demands of the industry,” he said.

Additionally, SMD Semiconductor announced the official launch of the Sarawak Semiconductor Roadmap 2030 – Beyond Moore’s Law, a strategic framework designed to drive technological advancements, enhance supply chain resilience, and position Sarawak’s semiconductor sector on the global stage.

“It provides a comprehensive plan to spur innovation, strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities, and cultivate a highly skilled workforce to meet future industry demands,” he added.

Exhibiting under the Sarawak Pavilion alongside the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) and the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), the company engaged with global industry leaders, potential partners, and key stakeholders, reinforcing its role in advancing semiconductor technology.

MWC 2025 brought together thousands of attendees, including top executives and innovators from the mobile and connectivity sectors, focusing on the transformative impact of 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT) on the future of connectivity.

With a strong emphasis on innovation and strategic partnerships, SMD Semiconductor remains committed to delivering high-performance semiconductor solutions that power the next generation of technology.
