KUCHING: Service centres throughout Sarawak have been encouraged to sustain their long-term commitment to ensuring government information and initiatives reach all areas, especially within state constituencies and parliamentary seats, as 2026 is viewed as a preparatory year.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU & Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the continuous dissemination of information by service centre officers is essential in helping the public gain a clear understanding of the state government’s development agenda.

He said that the Sarawak government has implemented a total of 139 initiatives as part of its efforts to align the state with developed regions in Peninsular Malaysia by 2030.

He added that the number of initiatives is expected to grow as the state continues to record strong development progress under its long-term planning framework.

Dr Abdul Rahman said the ultimate objective is to ensure Sarawak becomes a developed and high-income region by 2030, in line with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

He explained that Sarawak had already achieved international recognition when the World Bank classified the state as a high-income region in 2024, a milestone that reflects the government’s strong policy direction and leadership.

“This recognition came earlier than the 2030 target, and it is a proud achievement for all Sarawakians,” he said in his speech at the Program Demi Rakyat Bersama Pusat Khidmat dan Parlimen 2026 held here today (May 25).

He stressed that the second key component of a developed region is ensuring that economic growth translates into higher household income for the people.

According to him, the government is targeting improved income levels for all 2.8 million Sarawakians through various development initiatives and socio-economic programmes.

He said the 139 initiatives implemented by the government are designed to support both physical development and socio-economic growth across urban, suburban, rural and interior areas.

Dr Abdul Rahman also emphasised the important role of service centre officers in ensuring that all government information reaches the grassroots effectively.

He said information must not be limited to certain groups or organisations but must be delivered to all communities across DUN and parliamentary constituencies.

“We must continue our efforts beyond the office and ensure that information reaches every corner of our constituencies,” he said, adding that 2026 should be treated as a preparatory year requiring greater readiness and commitment.

He also called for stronger coordination between service centres and government agencies, including the use of structured engagement programmes to reach local communities more effectively.

Dr Abdul Rahman further reminded officers to remain proactive, people-friendly and responsive in delivering services, as they serve as the first point of contact between the government and the public.

He expressed confidence that with continued commitment and effective communication, Sarawak’s development agenda will be fully understood and supported by the people at all levels.
