BALAI RINGIN: Support for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) remains strong in Balai Ringin ahead of the coming state election, says its assemblyman, Datuk Snowdan Lawan.
Snowdan, who has contested the seat four times since 2006, said the 2026 state election would be his fifth if he is fielded again.
He attributed the support to GPS’ position as a home-grown coalition capable of governing Sarawak according to the state’s own needs and priorities.
“So far, support for GPS remains very strong because most residents understand the political landscape in Sarawak and Malaysia. It is easier for us to administer the state when we have our own local coalition.
“The villagers understand the long-term significance of our decision to leave Barisan Nasional and form GPS. This is what they want, and they continue to give us strong support,” he said.
He told reporters this after officiating at a ceremony marking the completion of the Jalan Melikin upgrading project under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) at Kampung Danau Keranggas Community Hall here today.
Snowdan, who is the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, said Sarawak’s steadily increasing annual budget had also strengthened public confidence in the state government and its development plans.
He said residents regularly participated in government programmes, reflecting their continued support for the administration.
“I always advise them to participate in government programmes, not only those organised by me, but also those held by the district office, Resident’s Office and local council.
“By attending these programmes, they can gain a better understanding of how the government works and plans development across Sarawak,” he said.
