KUCHING: Sarawak is set to strengthen its presence on the global tourism stage by capitalising on its biodiversity, breathtaking natural landscapes, and rich cultural heritage, says Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.
In a message posted in conjunction with Sarawak Day, the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture said the state is intensifying its focus on developing high-quality, integrated cultural-tourism products that reflect the unique identity of Borneo.
“We are committed to crafting authentic travel experiences that meet the rising demand for immersive cultural tourism,” he said.
He added that these initiatives are designed not only to attract global travellers but also to inject vitality into the local economy.
“Through targeted promotional campaigns, my Ministry aims to position Sarawak as a must-visit destination offering eye-opening experiences for international visitors,” he said.
As part of its broader vision, Tiong said the Sarawak government is also preparing for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, where the state is expected to play a pivotal role in driving the nation’s cultural and tourism growth.
“This includes empowering local communities and aligning resources to meet global tourism demands,” he added.
Tiong noted that Sarawak continues to receive international recognition for its commitment to cultural and environmental conservation.
“The inscription of Niah National Park Caves as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in July 2024 stands as a testament to the state’s achievements in safeguarding both natural wonders and cultural treasures.
“Our fertile land holds timeless stories, from Dayak heritage to ethnic cuisines and intricate handicrafts. These are not only preserved with pride but also promoted as key tourism assets,” he added.
