PADAWAN: A foreign woman faces the possibility of the death penalty or life imprisonment and whipping after police seized more than 1kg of suspected syabu from her yesterday (Aug 12).
Padawan police chief Supt Barry William said the 24-year-old Indonesian was arrested by police inside a coffee shop at the RPR Batu Kawa shophouses.
“The team seized a grey parcel containing a plastic packet marked “666”, which was found to contain crystalline substances suspected to be syabu.
“The drugs weighed about 1.046kg,” he said.
Also seized from her were two smartphones.
Barry said the suspect tested negative for drugs and has no prior criminal record.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking.
Upon conviction, the offence provides for the death penalty or life imprisonment. Where the death penalty is not imposed, the offender is liable to whipping of not less than 12 strokes.
