MIRI: Three local men suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol were arrested during a late-night police operation that also resulted in 20 traffic summonses being issued for various offences.
The arrests were made during a special Op Mabuk enforcement operation conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD Miri) along Jalan Miri-Airport between 11pm on Friday and 3.30am on Saturday.

Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the suspects, aged between 28 and 31, were detained after preliminary breathalyser tests indicated the presence of alcohol in their systems while they were driving.
The men were taken to the Miri Traffic Police Station for further investigation, while blood samples were collected at Miri Hospital’s Forensic Department to assist in the case.
During the operation, police screened 75 individuals, comprising 55 men and 20 women, and inspected 70 vehicles.
Officers detected a range of traffic violations, including driving without a valid licence, modified exhaust systems, expired road tax and failure to display probationary “P” plates.
A total of 20 summonses were issued for various offences.
Mohd Farhan said motorists convicted of drink-driving offences could face up to two years’ imprisonment, fines ranging from RM10,000 to RM30,000, and a two-year driving disqualification.
He stressed that police would continue to take firm action against motorists who drive under the influence of alcohol, warning that such behaviour endangers both road users and the wider public.
The operation forms part of ongoing enforcement efforts to curb dangerous driving practices and improve road safety in the district.
