MIRI: Three men were arrested while 48 traffic summonses were issued during an integrated crime prevention operation conducted across the city late on Saturday night.
The operation, which included roadblocks, snap checks, mobile patrols and inspections of entertainment outlets, was led by the Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD Miri) and involved 38 police personnel, comprising five senior officers and 33 rank-and-file officers.
Before the operation commenced, a deployment briefing was conducted at Ruai Kenyalang, IPD Miri, led by Head of the Miri District Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division, ASP Lee Yen Fang.
The operation began at 10 pm with roadblocks mounted at several locations within the Miri police district.
Police said traffic enforcement officers detected a range of offences during the checks, including motorists driving without valid licences, unauthorised vehicle modifications, missing side mirrors, modified exhaust systems, illegal “fancy” registration plates and expired road tax.
A total of 48 traffic summonses were issued during the operation.
At the same time, mobile patrol teams and snap check units conducted inspections in residential neighbourhoods, villages and along major roads to maintain a visible police presence and deter criminal activity.
Police said the high-visibility patrols were aimed at reassuring the public and reinforcing confidence that their communities remain safe and secure.
Inspections were also carried out at several entertainment outlets across the district.
During the operation, police arrested three men. Two were detained on suspicion of drug-related offences, while another was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
IPD Miri said similar integrated operations will continue to be carried out periodically as part of ongoing efforts to prevent crime, enhance public safety and strengthen the police presence in public areas.
