KUCHING: A total of 40 students from the Faculty of Education, Language, and Communication at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and Utsunomiya University, Japan, recently visited Masjid Jamek Negeri Sarawak as part of the Edutour 2025 programme.
According to a post on the mosque’s Facebook page, the visit aimed to introduce Japanese participants to Sarawak’s culture and provide them with a firsthand experience of Ramadan, including the tradition of breaking fast and insights into the state’s Islamic heritage.
The group was welcomed by Masjid Jamek Negeri Sarawak’s division head, Mohamad Nidzam Ahmad, who, in his speech, emphasised that such visits foster unity and serve as a platform for mutual understanding and recognition.
During the event, participants received a briefing on the mosque by Mohamad Nidzam before being given a tour. The visit concluded with the group joining mosque staff for the iftar (breaking fast) event.
