KOTA SAMARAHAN: A third-year university student was arrested after police allegedly uncovered a stash of child and adult pornographic materials stored in his electronic devices.
The arrest was made during an ‘Ops Pedo’ raid at a public tertiary institution’s residential college at around 2.40pm yesterday (May 13).
Acting Kota Samarahan police chief DSP Barry William said the Sarawak Malaysia Internet Crime Against Children Investigation Unit (MICAC) D11 team arrested the 21-year-old suspect, where he voluntarily handed over his phone and laptop for inspection.
“Initial checks on the devices allegedly found the presence of child and adult pornographic content believed to have been stored and accessed by the suspect.
“The suspect also admitted to being involved in accessing pornographic content since about five years ago and keeping the materials in his personal laptop,” he said.
Police seized a mobile phone, two SIM cards and a laptop to facilitate investigations.
Barry stated that the suspect is being held at Kota Samarahan police lock-up and will be brought before the Kota Samarahan Court for a remand application.
Further investigations are ongoing, including digital forensic analysis of the seized devices before the investigation paper is referred to the deputy public prosecutor for further action.
The case is being investigated under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and Section 292 of the Penal Code.
