SIBU: Youths in Sarawak have been encouraged to play a more active role as digital content creators by showcasing the unique attractions of Sibu and the state to a global audience, thereby strengthening Sarawak’s tourism promotion through social media.
Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, said the state’s rich food culture, traditions, natural beauty and the warmth of its people, which locals often take for granted, are in fact fresh and fascinating experiences for first-time visitors to Sarawak.
He said the youths should harness their creativity and digital skills to produce engaging content that tells the stories and highlights the distinctive features of Sarawak to a wider audience.
“Many foreign tourists are willing to travel great distances to visit Sarawak, while we often regard what we have as ordinary.
“In reality, what we possess is of great value in their eyes,” he said in a post on his official social media after officiating at the closing of the ‘From 0 to 1’ Social Media Content Creators Workshop today.
Tiang said the workshop was organised not merely to produce social media influencers, but to empower young people to tell the stories of Sibu and Sarawak through creative and authentic digital content.
He said such content has the potential not only to promote local tourist attractions but also to foster a positive image of Sarawak at both the national and international levels.
The Pelawan assemblyman also expressed hope that more content creators would come forward to collaborate in promoting Sibu and Sarawak, helping to attract more visitors to discover the state’s beauty and uniqueness through videos and photographs shared on social media.
During the event, certificates of completion were presented to participants who successfully completed the ‘From 0 to 1’ Social Media Content Creators Workshop.
