MIRI: Police issued a total of 96 summonses and confiscated 15 motorcycles in an integrated crime prevention operation held on New Year’s Eve.

Miri deputy police chief Supt Nur Ashyikin Abdullah said the operation, which commenced at 10 pm on Dec 31, involved 89 officers and personnel from various divisions and branches of Miri district police headquarters (IPD).

“Roadblocks mounted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at Jalan Tudan (both directions), Jalan Dato Sri Joseph Balan Seling, and the city centre, resulted in the issuance of a total of 96 summonses and confiscation of 15 motorcycles.

“Common traffic offences detected include fancy licence plates, modified exhaust system and failure to produce valid driver’s licence,” she said in a statement.

In addition, police also inspected several entertainment outlets and monitored public gathering spots such as commercial centres in the city centre, Bandar Baru Permyjaya, Lutong, Senadin and other areas.

Nur Ashyikin stated that the team inspected a total of 296 individuals and 253 vehicles in the integrated operation.

In light of this, she advised all parents to always supervise their children to prevent their involvement in criminal activities or illegal racing.
