KUCHING: The National Covid-19 Vaccination Programme in Sarawak will be intensified during the movement control order (MCO).

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the vaccination programme would continue as usual.

“Those who have vaccination appointments will be allowed to go out to get their vaccination at centres across the state.

“We will also be issuing new standard operating procedures (SOPs) at vaccination centres to ensure we do it safely,” he said today.

He also informed that coordinating minister of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Khairy Jamaluddin, would come to Sarawak on Saturday to brief SDMC on the volume of vaccine that would be sent for June, July and August.

Uggah also said with ICU beds at a critical stage, it was still in the process of upgrading.

He explained that the state government had asked Kuala Lumpur three months ago to add more ICU beds for Sarawak.

“For example, RM4.6 million has been approved by the prime minister and allocated for ICU beds in Kapit.”

Regarding the total lockdown at The Spring Shopping Mall, he said there were cases there and active case detection (ACD) was conducted.

“At the moment, we still need to wait for the full report of the incident.”

Meanwhile, State Health Department acting director Dr Rosemawati Ariffin commented on the delay of the vaccination programme.

She revealed that her department had been informed that the vaccines for May 28 would arrive late.

“We understand there are no flights coming to Sarawak on the scheduled date.

“We have informed Khairy, for his efforts, the vaccine was received on Wednesday.”

Asked if there was any specific date for the vaccination process, she said it depended on the divisions and the districts when vaccination could proceed.
