Police denies claims of kidnapping incident, baseless reports

PADAWAN: Police here have denied claims by social media posts that a primary school student almost became a victim of a kidnapping case at Mile 10 today (Sept 26).

Padawan OCPD Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad in a statement, described the posts as baseless as there were no reports pertaining to such kidnapping incident in the district.

“We have detected several social media posts claiming that a student nearly became a kidnapping victim.

“In fact, the police have contacted the school’s headmaster and he also denied that no such information were given,” he said.

In this regard, Abang Zainal emphasised and reminded the public as well as media practitioners to obtain confirmation from the authorities before issuing any statement of such kind.

Any statement published without any verification and authentic evidence, can be investigated under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
