SIBURAN: The contract for the long-delayed new Siburan Health Clinic project will be awarded soon.
Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin said the Ministry of Health (MOH) has approved the Type 3 clinic and is now open for tender with the awarding of contract to be done soon, while construction works will begin this year.
“Very soon the project will be awarded to a successful contractor,” he said adding that there is urgency of the Siburan Clinic project to proceed without further delay.
Willie said this in his speech during the meet-the-people session in conjunction with the Chinese New Year festival at the Siburan Community Hall yesterday.
Some 93 poor families from the Chinese community received food packages and “angpows” from Willie at the function.
He said Deputy Minister of Health Dr Lee Boon Chye also visited the site of the project as well as the site for the new clinic.
The project will be implemented using the Pre Approved Plan (PAP). A Type 3 Health Clinic is defined as a clinic which tends to 300 to 500 patients a day.
Managed by medical officers, the clinic provides general out-patient, maternal and child, dental and rehabilitation care. It would also have laboratory and radiological services.
He said that he will ensure there is no more delay in the implementation of the project and thanked the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government for approving the project, and he also extended his special thanks to the previous leaders who mooted the idea to build the Siburan Clinic.
He said it was the duty of the government of the day to get it done for the benefit of the people.
For the record, the proposal to build a new and bigger Clinic in Siburan was first announced by former Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai when he made a working visit to the Siburan rural clinic on April 13, 2011.
The former Health Minister also promised and reaffirmed that a new, bigger and modern clinic for Siburan at a cost of RM22 million will be built and promised to be ready by 2016.
In April 25, 2016, former Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S Subramanian also pledged the same promises that a health clinic would be built in Siburan.
However, the pledges promised by the former government had never materialised.
Besides the proposed new Siburan Clinic, Wilie said the Siburan also now has a new basketball multi-purpose hall and a Fama market which will soon be handed to the Serian District Office.
For these two projects Willie commended former Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Seri Dr James Dawos Mamit for his initiative.
Meanwhile Willie said the new federal government is trying its best to bring development to the people and assist the poor and the underprivileged.
