KUCHING: The Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) and the Sarawak Centre of Performance Excellence Sdn Bhd  (SCOPE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to offer the MICPA x CA ANZ Qualifying Programme in Kuching.

According to SCOPE CEO Joseph Lim, the occasion not only celebrates the formalisation of a partnership but also a shared commitment to excellence, collaboration and capacity building for the advancement of Sarawak’s human capital.

“MICPA, with its longstanding legacy of producing top-tier accountants, has been instrumental in shaping Malaysia’s financial landscape. SCOPE, on the other hand, has championed the cause of professional development in Sarawak, with a strong emphasis on equipping local talents with globally recognised competencies,” he said in a press statement on Wednesday (Feb 5).

The MoU also signifies a union of two esteemed institutions that share a common vision: to develop and empower professionals, strengthen governance, and ultimately contribute to the economic growth of Sarawak and Malaysia.

Lim said by combining MICPA’s expertise in professional accounting and SCOPE’s localised knowledge and network, the partnership creates a powerful platform for nurturing the next generation of leaders in Sarawak.

“This collaboration will lead also to the implementation of training programs that enhance technical skills, professional ethics, and leadership capabilities, tailored to meet the unique needs of Sarawak.

“It also sets the stage for addressing emerging challenges such as digital transformation, ESG compliance, and global economic shifts, ensuring that Sarawak’s professionals remain competitive on both national and international levels,” he added.

The signing of the MoU comes at a pivotal time when Sarawak is pursuing ambitious development agendas under its Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

SCOPE also expressed their confidence on the partnership which will play a pivotal role in building a resilient and competent workforce to drive Sarawak’s transformation into a high-income and sustainable economy.

The MoU also demonstrates the commitment of both MICPA and SCOPE to advancing professional standards and educational excellence in Malaysia with the first intake of MICPA qualification commencing in April 2025 in SCOPE.

Also present during the ceremony was MICPA president Soo Hoo Khoon Yean.
