SIBU: The General Operations Force (GOF) has arrested two locals for alleged involvement in the illegal storage of 9,000 litres of subsidised diesel worth RM1.1 million yesterday (Feb 12).
In the operation codenamed ‘Op Taring Bravo 1’, the GOF 10th Battalion’s Intelligence Branch inspected a premises in Sibu town at 9.30 am, following suspicions that it had been turned into a place for smuggling and storing of subsidised diesel.
Sarawak GOF Brigade commander SAC Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang said two men, aged 44 and 48, were arrested at the scene to assist in investigation.
“Further checks led to the seizures of 9,000 litres of diesel, which were kept in intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) at the premises. Two lorries were also seized in the raid.
“All of the goods are valued at RM1,148,400, according to market price,” he said.
Che Ghazali added that the suspects and seizures were handed over to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sibu branch for further action.
The case is being investigated under Section 20 (1) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
From Jan 1 to Feb 12, the Sarawak GOF Brigade recorded enforcement success worth RM71.9 million, involving 44 cases, 87 arrests, and the seizure of 37 vehicles.
