KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here fined a local man RM5,000 in default 12 months imprisonment for possessing child pornography on his phone.
Nicholas Sim, 42, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan to the charge framed under Section 292 (a) of the Penal Code.
He was found in possession of the pornographic material on his phone on Jan 27.
The offence provides for imprisonment for a term of up to three years or a fine or both.
Based on the case facts, police arrested Sim in a house at Jalan Bunga Melati following a tip-off.
A search of his phone, which he voluntarily handed over to police, uncovered child pornography content stored in the device’s photo gallery.
Hence, Sim committed an offence under Section 292 (a) of the Penal Code for storing and possessing obscene material involving minors.
