KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here fined a local man RM3,000 in default 12 months in prison for intentionally damaging his sister’s house door, causing RM300 in losses.
Mohd Ali Hanafiah, 29, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan to a charge framed under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief by damaging the door belonging to his 33-year-old sister.
The offence was committed at a house in Taman Sepakat Jaya here at around 6:40 pm on May 20.
Based on the case facts, Ali had run amok on the day of the incident and damaged the door using a meat cleaver before leaving the house.
Fearing for her safety and that of her six-month-old baby while her husband was not at home, the victim contacted the police for assistance.
Ali was arrested the same day at around 7:30 pm in front of an apartment at Jalan Demak.
It was understood that Ali was under the influence of alcohol and unaware of his actions during the incident.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Adriana Maisarah Mohd Farid prosecuted, while he was unrepresented by counsel.
