KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak’s strategic investments in renewable energy infrastructure, from hydropower and solar hybrid systems for rural electrification to pioneering green hydrogen production, are serving as a blueprint for integrated sustainable development.

Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, who officiated as Chief Guest, said these initiatives reflect both Malaysia and Sarawak commitment to the nation’s climate change goals and its Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).

“Solar energy is no longer a distant option; it is a present day imperative. By embracing it, we create not only a cleaner environment but also a stronger, more resilient economy,” he said at the opening of The Solar Week Malaysia 2025 at Berjaya Times Square Hotel recently.

He also urged closer collaboration between federal and state agencies, private investors, and technology innovators to accelerate renewable energy integration into the national grid.

The conference gathered policymakers, renewable energy companies, financiers, researchers, and community leaders from across Malaysia and the region to explore innovations, market trends, and policy developments shaping the country’s solar energy future.

Its programme featured high level panels on grid integration and stability, financing strategies for large scale solar projects, next generation photovoltaic technologies, and regulatory frameworks to boost adoption.

Breakout sessions are providing opportunities for industry participants to exchange ideas, form partnerships, and explore cutting edge solutions tailored to Malaysia’s market needs.

Technical presentations by leading solar technology providers and case studies of successful solar installations in both urban and rural contexts are also part of the day’s agenda.

The event’s networking segments are enabling stakeholders to forge strategic alliances that will help drive Malaysia’s solar capacity growth in the coming years.

In closing his keynote, Dr Hazland commended the organisers for creating a platform that unites visionaries and practitioners, expressing confidence that The Solar Week Malaysia 2025 will generate tangible outcomes in advancing Malaysia’s sustainable energy ambitions.
