KUCHING: Sarawak’s rapid progress, particularly in renewable energy development, has positioned the state as an emerging energy hub for Malaysia and the ASEAN region.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said while much has been achieved under the ‘Sarawak First’ agenda, the struggle remains unfinished as rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) are still pending despite its incorporation into the Federal Constitution in 2021.

“MA63 was finally incorporated into the Federal Constitution in 2021, which was 58 years after the formation of Malaysia.

“However, there are still outstanding issues yet to be resolved, such as financial resources, as well as autonomy in health and education,” he said in his Malaysia Day 2025 address.

Dr Sim highlighted that Sarawak, guided by the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, has introduced various initiatives to drive growth and prosperity.

These include the establishment of Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (PETROS), the Development Bank of Sarawak (DBOS), state-owned television station TVS, the Sarawak Coast Guard, and the e-wallet application, S Pay Global.

Dr Sim further called on all Sarawakians, regardless of where they are, to continue playing their roles and carrying their responsibilities to ensure the state’s progress and prosperity are sustained.

He also stressed that the unity of the people, racial harmony, and religious tolerance practised in Sarawak must continue to be preserved as the foundation in realising the PCDS 2030.

“These efforts will ensure economic prosperity, inclusive development, where no one is left behind, and the safeguarding of environmental sustainability,” he said.
