DARO: An Indonesian man was charged in the Sarikei Magistrate’s Court over two offences – criminal intimidation and failing to possess valid documents – following a recent incident involving a local woman.
The 31-year-old was produced before the court today and charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Matu Daro Police Chief, DSP Rahim Mihos, said no plea was recorded and bail was not offered.
“The case has been fixed for further mention on January 29. Pending the next court date, the foreigner is being held at Sibu Central Prison,” he said.
Rahim stated that the man was arrested last Monday after police received a report from the victim alleging that she had been threatened with a machete.
Further checks found that the foreigner did not possess a passport or any valid travel document and had no prior criminal record.
He was earlier remanded for four days to facilitate investigations before the case was referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor.
