Six days lost in forest, elderly woman found alive

PAKAN: A tense six-day wait ended on a hopeful note today (Jan 18) when an elderly woman who had gone missing in the forest near Jalan Wak was found alive.

The 67-year-old woman, who has disabilities, was found at 10.13 am, about 1.3km from Rumah Ajai Sandin.

She was conscious but weak, with injuries to her legs after spending several days in the forest.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said rescuers immediately conducted an initial assessment before carrying her to safety and transporting her back to her residence.

Following her safe return, the team ended the search at 11.50 am.

The woman was last seen at around 11 am on Jan 13 after leaving her home to collect vegetables behind the house.

She was wearing a red batik-style blouse at the time. When she failed to return, family members grew worried and began searching for her.

Initial efforts by relatives and longhouse residents yielded no results, prompting a report to the authorities and the launch of SAR operation.

Firefighters from Bintangor station, the police, People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) and Civil Defence Force (APM) were involved in the six-day search that ultimately ended on a hopeful note.
